Christ
Enthroned in Glory
Prayer Before the Icon of Christ
We reverence thy spotless Icon, O gracious
Lord, and ask forgiveness of our transgressions, O Christ our
God: for of thine own good will thou wast pleased to ascend the
Cross in the flesh, that thou mightest deliver from bondage to
the enemy those whom thou hadst fashioned. Wherefore, we cry
aloud unto thee: thou hast filled all things with joy, O our
Saviour, for thou didst come to save the world.
In this icon of Christ Enthroned in Glory, He is encircled by Seraphim singing: "Holy! Holy! Holy! Lord of Sabaoth! Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest!" The Gospel Book is open to "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." Around them are the symbols of the four Evangelists pointing out, signifying their message going into all the earth. This icon is located at the peak of the wall above the icons of the great hymnographers of the Church in the choir loft. This icon instructs us that evangelism naturally flows from true worship.
This Icon is by the hand of Constantine Youssis and is at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, New Kensington, Pennsylvania.
