Holy Theotokos

Mary
Mother of God - Consolation
Troparion
Since thou art a well-spring of tenderness,
O Theotokos, make us worthy of compassion; Look upon a sinful
people; Manifest thy power as ever, for hoping on thee we cry
aloud unto thee: Hail! as once did Gabriel, chief Captain of the
Bodiless Powers
This Icon contains a loosed sandal on Christ's foot, foretelling John the Baptist' statement "the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose." Luke 3:16. This illustrates the Theotokos being greater than John the Baptist because she was worthy to untie his sandals. The sandal also foretells Christ's death on the Cross specifically that he was barefoot on the cross.
This Icon is by the hand of Robert S. Burt.
