Troparion
(Tone 8)

In patience thou didst win thy reward, O righteous John. Thou didst love the poor and provide for them bountifully. Pray to Christ our God to save our souls.

St. John the Almsgiver the Merciful, was the son of Epiphanius the governor of Cyprus. He was pressured to marry and have children but later lost them all. St. John became the Patriarch of Alexandria because of his meekness, compassion and love. When the Persians invaded Egypt he fled back to Cyprus where he reposed in 620.

This Icon is by the hand of Niko Chocheli. It is from the Coulter family private collection.
