Since thou art a well-spring of tenderness, O Theotokos, make us worthy of compassion; Look upon a sinful people; Manifest thy power as ever, for hoping on thee we cry aloud unto thee: Hail! as once did Gabriel, chief Captain of the Bodiless Powers

This Icon is from the 1st half of the 12th century, from Martvili, Georgia. The Theotokos is tooled in gold and surrounded by gemstones. There are 11 icon medallions surrounding the central figure. In the corners are the Four Evangelists, starting from upper right, then clockwise: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. To the left middle is St. Cyrus. To the right middle is St. Paul. Christ & the Theotokos are represented again in medallions just over the curve of the arch. Across the top are St. Peter, St. Marcianus and St. Basil.
