Holy Martyr Charitina

Troparion (Tone 4)
By divine grace you preserved yourself, shaming the rule of impiety O Charitina, suffering beyond nature, from whom an everflowing spring of grace pours out as sweetness on those who cry out to you glorious martyr entreat Christ our God to grant us great mercy.

St. Charitina was orphaned in infancy.  A Christian man adopted her and raised her in the Faith.  She was a very obedient young woman great in humilty and chasitity.  She fervently studied the Law of God and guarded her virginity, determined to live a Christian life.  She brought others to the Faith which angered the eparch of Emperor Diocletian.  She was brought before a judge for trial and charged with being a Christian and spreading falsehood.  She boldly declared that she was indeed a Christian, but she was merely sharing the truth that leads to Christ.  The judge was outraged and had her head shorn and hot coals poured upon it.  She survived.  She was thrown into the sea to drown, but God protected her.  They tied her to a wheel, but the wheel was stopped by an angel and St. Charitina was again saved.  The judge then sent perverse men to rape her.  Knowing that these men were on their way, St. Charitina knelt in prayer asking that her soul be received before such a thing would happen to her.  As she knelt, she departed from this life.  St. Charitina suffered during the third century.  The words around the edge are the above troparion.
