The Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God

Troparion (Tone 4)
Thy birth, O Mother of God, has brought joy to all the world; for from thee arose the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, Who, having dissolved the curse, has given His blessing, and having abolished death, has granted us life eternal.

This icon shows the prophecy by the angels of the birth of Mary, the Theotokos, separately to Joachim in the field and to Anna at their house. In the bottom, center panel is the conception of the Theotokos, portrayed by the loving embrace of Ss. Joachim & Anna. Directly above that is Anna about to give birth with the midwives in attendance. On the left are the midwives tending to the infant Mary. On the right are Joachim and Anna giving thanks to God for their most blessed child and dedicating her to God. In the lower panel is when they recognize it is time for the Theotokos to enter the Temple.
