The Palm

Palm Sunday
Troparion (Tone 4)
O Christ God, when we were buried with Thee
in Baptism, we became deserving of thy Resurrection to immortal
life. Wherefore, we praise thee, crying, Hosanna in the highest,
blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord.
One week before the Passion, Christ rode triumphantly into Jerusalem. As a sign of honor, garments are spread on the ground for the Lord, seated on a donkey, to ride over, and palms are raised in praise. With His right hand He blesses with the priest's blessing symbolizing the Greek letters "IC XC" for the abbreviation of "Jesus Christ" and in His left hand He holds the scroll of a prophet to remind us that He is the fulfillment of the prophet's word. The city of Jerusalem is in the background.
This Icon is by the hand of Constantine Youssis and is from St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
