St. Vladimir July 15th
Troparion

O holy prince, Vladimir, you were like a merchant in search of fine pearls. By sending servants to Constantinople for the Orthodox faith, you found Christ, the priceless pearl. He appointed you to be another Paul washing away in baptism your physical and spiritual blindness. We celebrate your memory asking you to pray for all suffering Christians of Russia, and for us your spiritual children.

Grand Prince of Kiev, Vladimir was known for his cruelty and paganism before his conversion to Christianity. He learned of different faiths and decided to send envoys to examine them. They attended a service at Hagia Sophia in Constantinople and brought back the report that they didn't know whether they were on earth or in heaven. This inspired him to be baptized and to have all the people baptized. He smashed the idols and had churches built. He married Anne, daughter of Emperor Basil II. He entered into rest in the Lord in 1015.

St. Olga July 11th
Troparion  (Tone 1)
Thou didst give wings to thy mind with the knowledge of God, and soar beyond creatures to God the Creator of all. And when thou hadst found Him thou wast baptized and re-born. Thou dost enjoy the Tree of Life, remaining eternally incorrupt, O ever glorious Olga.

St. Olga is also known as St. Elena. Olga was her name given at birth and she was given the Christian name Elena (Helen) when she was baptised by Patriarch Polyeuctus in Constantinople. She was the wife of Prince Igor of Kievan Rus and grandmother of St. Vladimir. She did much to evangelize Russia. Saint Princess Olga reposed in the Lord in 969.

This Icon is by the hand of Nicholas Papas. It is from St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, Conemaugh, Pennsylvania. Vladimir's scroll reads: "O Lord God, look down upon your newly enlightened people."
