Six Liturgists & Deisis
St. Athanasios, St. James of Jerusalem, St. Basil the Great, St. John Chrysostom St. Gregory Dialogos, St. Polycarp

From the Anaphora
Let us stand aright; let us stand with fear; let us attend, that we may offer the Holy Oblation in peace.

This icon of Christ is the Pantocrator which means ruler or judge over all. It is the largest icon in the Church. Notice the book is closed and He is seated. This is an icon of Christ at the Final Judgment. St. Mary and St. John are bowing in submission and worship. They again are icons of the two Covenants. Both Old and New Testaments always point us to Christ. Below them are Six Liturgists. The center four have had liturgies named for them in the history of the Church. The outer two contributed in significant ways to the early development of the forms we still use. Their scrolls contain phrases that they contributed to the Liturgy.

Saint Athanasios: "It is no temporal feast that we come to but an eternal heavenly feast."
Saint James of Jerusalem: "Let all mortal flesh keep silence."
Saint Basil the Great: "Be mindful, O Lord, of thy holy, catholic and apostolic church."
Saint John Chrysostom: "I will not speak of thy mystery to thine enemies."
Saint Gregory Dialogos: "Now the powers of heaven invisibly worship with us."
Saint Polycarp: "I praise Thee. I bless Thee. I glorify Thee."

These icons are by the hand of Nicholas Papas. They are on the East wall at St. Philip's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Souderton, PA.
