The Lord
in Glory
Prayer Before the Icon of Christ
We reverence thy spotless Icon, O gracious
Lord, and ask forgiveness of our transgressions, O Christ our
God: for of thine own good will thou wast pleased to ascend the
Cross in the flesh, that thou mightest deliver from bondage to
the enemy those whom thou hadst fashioned. Wherefore, we cry
aloud unto thee: thou hast filled all things with joy, O our
Saviour, for thou didst come to save the world.
In this icon of Christ Enthroned in Glory, the Gospel Book is open to "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest,Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; for my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Around Him are the symbols of the four Evangelists, a man, an eagle, a lion and a bull. This shows how Christ uses different approaches to make his glory known and extend his invitation to rest in Him to all the world.
