The History of Our SalvationPlease do not deep-link to any of our icons.

This 19th century Russian icon depicts events in our salvation from the Hospitality of Abraham to the writing of the Four Gospels and the Holy Protection of the Church by the Theotokos. It includes the Nativity of the Theotokos, her Entry Into the Temple, the Annunciation, her Dormition and her Holy Protection of the Church. Scenes depict the Nativity of Christ, His Presentation in the Temple, Theophany, Transfiguration, Raising of Lazarus, Triumphal Entry and His Ascension. The central icons are that of the Crucifixion with Christ Preaching in Hades. Above and below it are the Last Supper and the Burial of Christ. Above these are the Harrowing of Hell and the Resurrection. At the bottom is the Hospitality of Abraham. Flanked around the central icon are icons of the Four Evangelists. Along the bottom are the Beheading of John the Baptist and the Elevation of the True Cross. The small diamonds contain icons of the self-emptying humiliation of Christ, from the Feetwashing, to the Betrayal of Judas, to the removal of his body from the Cross. Together, it forms a powerful statement of God's love for fallen mankind.
