Prayer before the icon of Christ
We reverence thy spotless Icon, O gracious Lord, and ask forgiveness of our transgressions, O Christ our God: for of thine own good will thou wast pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, that thou mightest deliver from bondage to the enemy those whom thou hadst fashioned. Wherefore, we cry aloud unto thee: thou hast filled all things with joy, O our Saviour, for thou didst come to save the world.

In this icon of the Lord Almighty, the Gospel Book is open to Matthew 11:28: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.". This is to invite all to salvation.

This icon is 18th century Russian and its inscription is in Slavonic. It is from the Ferguson family's collection. It is the same size as and pairs nicely with this icon of the Theotokos.
