This icon of Jesus Christ is the Pantocrator which means ruler or judge over all. Notice the book is closed. This is an icon of Christ at the Final Judgment. The banner reads: "The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of his dwelling He looks upon all those who live on earth. He considers all their works He fashions their hearts alike."
