Saint
Myron of Crete
August 8th
Troparion (Tone 4)
Thy righteous acts have manifested thee to thy flock as a model
of faith, a reflection of humility, and a teacher of abstinence,
O Father Bishop Myron. Therefore, through humility thou hast
achieved exaltation, and through poverty, riches. Intercede thou
with Christ God to save our souls.
St. Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete, was a humble farmer. He and his wife shared joyfully and generously with the poor. Once, he caught some thieves stealing corn from his threshing floor. Rather than act as the owner and chase them off or have them arrested, he joined their band long enough to help them fill their sacks, lift them onto their backs and help them get away. Because of his honest, humble and industrious reputation, he was ordained priest, then consecrated bishop. Many miracles happened by his prayers. He was a wise Bishop and a peacemaker. He reposed in the Lord at the great age of 100 in the year 350.
