January 6th
Katavasia of Theophany (Tone 2)
Verily, Israel passed the tempest of the tumultuous sea, having appeared to him again as dry land. But the tri-speared Egyptians were lost wholly by the darkness of the deep, as a graveyard swept by waters, by the power of the precious right hand of the Master.

This icon, which is approximately nine feet by nine feet on the upper wall of the North transept at St. Philip Antiochian Orthodox Church, is one of a set of icons which portray the unfolding of the story of God's love for mankind and His plan for our salvation. This icon showing Moses and Israel safely across the Red Sea with all their enemies vanquished is paired with an icon of Theophany where the Trinity appeared at the waters of Jordan to proclaim our eternal salvation through Jesus Christ!
