Saint Nina
of Georgia
with
scenes from her life
January 14th
Troparion (Tone 3)
As minister of the word of God in apostolic
preaching, you equaled Andrew the first-called and the rest of
the Apostles. Enlightener of Georgia and instruments of the Holy
Spirit, holy Nina, equal to the Apostles, entreat Christ God that
our souls may be saved.
Nina was born in Cappadocia to a Roman citizen named Zabulon and his wife, Susanna, a deaconess and the sister of the bishop of Jerusalem. Nina was reared by a governess from Iberia (now more commonly known as Georgia). She was inspired to spend most of her life there evangelizing the people. She entered eternal life in 335. Georgia is one of the oldest Orthodox countries in the world, since St. Nina firmly established the Church there.
This Icon of Saint Nina is by the hand of Iuri Kochetov of the Republic of Georgia. It is from St. Philip Antiochian Orthodox Church, Souderton, PA.
