Princess Olga
July 11th
Troparion (Tone
1)
Thou didst give wings to thy mind with the
knowledge of God, and soar beyond creatures to God the Creator of
all. And when thou hadst found Him thou wast baptized and
re-born. Thou dost enjoy the Tree of Life, remaining eternally
incorrupt, O ever glorious Olga.
Princess Olga is also known as Saint Elena. Olga was her name given at birth and she was given the Christian name Elena (Helen) when she was baptised by Patriarch Polyeuctus in Constantinople. She was the wife of Prince Igor of Kievan Rus. She did much to evangelize Russia. Saint Princess Olga reposed in the Lord in 969.
