Troparion (Tone 4)
Leaders of the Apostles and teachers of the world, pray to the Master of all to grant peace to the world and great mercy to our souls.

In this Icon of St. Peter, he is holding a scroll which contains the confession of faith from which he received his name. Peter said, "Thou art the Christ." Christ responded by teaching that "upon this rock", that is the confession of the full humanity and deity of Jesus Christ, the Church would be built. The name "Peter" means a small rock or a piece of the rock.
