Epitaphios
Holy Saturday
St. Joseph
of Arimathea
July 31st Troparion
The Noble Joseph having taken your Most Pure Body
down from the Cross, wrapped it in a clean shroud and anointed it
with fragrant spices and laid it in a new tomb.
But on the third day You arose, O Lord, granting the world great
mercy.
This Icon is on the cloth used at St. George's Orthodox Church in Taylors, PA, during the Lamentation Matins which takes place late on Friday evening of Great Week. It is held over the heads of the congregation as they process back into the Church. It touches the head of each believer, thus reminding each of us of our Baptism when we were buried with Christ.
It is by the hand of Nicholas Papas.
